Job description and person specification

Job Description:

This is your opportunity to be part of something exciting!

Fantastic opportunities have arisen for enthusiastic and dedicated, newly qualified Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN) or Registered Learning Disability Nurses (RLDN) to undertake a 12 month preceptorship programme at one of the UK’s most respected providers of secure mental health services.

The Trust is looking to recruit in the Secure Directorate at Langdon Hospital which is located in Dawlish and provides forensic mental health services for the South West region.

Langdon Hospital is a campus-style site set within 111 acres of beautiful countryside accompanied by panoramas of the sea providing a calming and therapeutic environment. The site includes a £27 million state-of-the-art ‘medium secure’ unit as well as a number of ‘low secure’ and open wards. It is also close to the stunning Devon beaches which are renowned for their surf and it is only a 20 minute drive from Exeter’s active city centre.

The preceptorship programme is designed for new graduates supporting them through the transition from student to qualified practitioner. It is also suitable for returning to work nursing professionals. During this time, the staff member will be supported by an experienced practitioner (a preceptor), to develop their confidence as an independent professional, and to refine their skills, values and behaviours. The programme includes six study days covering a range of topics and a comprehensive preceptorship handbook to support development in practice.

In addition to this, the programme encompasses portfolio building, networking with your peers and aims to educate and stimulate discussion. It provides a foundation for lifelong learning and allows nurses to provide effective patient-centred care confidently.

At the end of the 12 month programme, the preceptee (you) will become a full time, substantive RMN or RLDN staff nurse and will increase an increment within the Band 5 pay grade. More extensive training and career options will also be available such as progression to a Band 6 Clinical Team Leader or training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

The successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, commitment to working flexibly, be patient centric and demonstrate a commitment to further development with the support of the team and Trust.

Please note this advert is rolling. You will be contacted within two weeks of submitting your application.

It is an exciting time for the directorate as it is continuously growing and we have recently won a contract to provide mental healthcare series in Devon’s three prisons. We have also been rated ‘excellent’ by the CQC in relation to our responsiveness to patient’s needs and have won the Leadership Award for Excellence in Patient Experience.

What we can offer you:

We offer a number of attractive benefits, including but not limited to:

  • Flexible working
  • 27 days (minimum) of annual leave per year so you can really enjoy what Devon has to offer
  • Weekly interest training and debate sessions
  • Individual personal development plans and a commitment to on-going training. Includes opportunities to work on different wards to build on skill sets
  • Generous NHS pension scheme
  • Enhanced maternity pay in line with NHS
  • Sick pay
  • Childcare voucher scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Health service discounts and online benefits
  • Access and attendance to the Nursing Forum
  • Free parking at Langdon Hospital

Please note a relocation package may be available.
