The Cedars adult inpatient services are looking for Substantive Staff Nurses to work either full or part time hours per week.

The Cedars unit has two short term assessment and treatment wards for adults aged 18-65 years experiencing acute symptoms of their mental health conditions. We are looking to recruit nurses from any background, looking for a permanent contract for either full or part time hours.

The Cedars is aiming for “outstanding” from the Care Quality Commission and as such looking for people with the same passion and drive to help achieve this.

This is an exciting opportunity for both newly qualified staff who would still receive our supportive and excellent preceptorship programme, and those staff that has been qualified for a period of time, but would like to expand their experience and knowledge, possibly in a different field than that in which they currently work.

If you are a newly qualified there is the preceptorship programme which is designed for new graduates supporting them through the transition from student to qualified practitioner. It is also suitable for returning to work nursing professionals. During this time, the staff member will be supported by an experienced practitioner to help

You to develop your confidence as an independent professional, and to refine your skills, values and behaviours. The programme includes six study days covering a range of topics and a comprehensive preceptorship handbook to support development in practice.

In addition to this, the programme encompasses portfolio building, networking with your peers and aims to educate and stimulate discussion. It provides a foundation for lifelong learning and allows nurses to provide effective patient-centred care confidently.

About you

This is an exciting role which we hope you will help to define. You will be a good team player with excellent communication skills and a confident manner with patients. Whether an experienced nurse or newly qualified, you will be able to demonstrate effective working in a multi-disciplinary team setting, with an awareness of all relevant legislation. You will be dedicated to delivering high quality treatment, and be able to lead by example. Confident and capable, you will be required to make decisions and see these through with the support of your team.

You’ll be keen to learn and develop, demonstrating a commitment to further development. To help you grow as a profession we will offer you the chance to learn new skills through education and training.

The Cedars operates 24/7 and you will be required to work flexibly, including weekend and nights.

Adult Inpatient services

The Cedars in Exeter has two adult inpatient wards Delderfield ward and Combehaven ward which provide a safe and therapeutic environment for people with acute mental health problems.

Devon Partnership NHS trust has a number of inpatient mental health wards at locations across Devon. Intensive treatment is provided on inpatient wards and recovery is promoted from the very beginning of admission. The wards have a weekly programme of activities which can include therapies such as arts, cooking, exercise classes and group meetings.

Wards are staffed by nurses, psychiatrists, therapists, pharmacists, junior medical staff, healthcare assistants and occupational therapists.
