Job description and person specification

Job Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated multidisciplinary mental health team working in HMP Dartmoor or Channings Wood. The post holder will undertake physical health monitoring for individuals with complex mental health issues and will offer short term, workbook based interventions to a small case-load of service users, as well as co-facilitating group work interventions.

The post holder will form part of a team of Health Care Assistants across the Devon prison sites; including HMP Dartmoor, HMP Channings Wood & HMP Exeter. The post holder may, on occasion, be expected to travel to co-facilitate and support the roles of their colleagues in these other settings.

As a Directorate, we provide forensic mental health services for the South West region and have an excellent reputation. We employ over 300 staff and have ambitious plans in place to expand and develop our existing services. We support people who, as a consequence of their mental health needs, have had contact with the criminal justice system and require a safe and secure environment that enables them to receive a wide range of treatments, therapies and care to support their recovery. Recovery is at the heart of everything we do - it is about people building a meaningful life and represents a shift away from focusing on illness and symptoms towards a focus on personal health, strengths and wellness. Within the Prison Mental Health Service we ensure that all service users have appropriate assessments, care plans & risk assessments in place, with access to a full range of therapeutic interventions.

This post may be a training opportunity for candidates who do not already hold a QCF/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or have an equivalent qualification. Where this is offered as a training post, the starting salary will be at £14,313.60, and will increase to £15,336 after 12 months. You will be supported to complete the qualification within 18 months, after which your salary will be adjusted to £17,787, the starting salary of someone who already holds the qualification.

This Level 3 qualification forms the first step in the career development pathway for those joining the Trust who are wishing to progress onto completing the Level 4 Foundation Degree as a gateway to commencing their Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse training.
