The role

Salary: £77,913 - £105,042

Relocation package up to £8K

  • Are you an experienced and committed consultant psychiatrist looking for a new challenge in an award-winning organisation?

  • Can you help us deliver life-changing eating disorder services to vulnerable patients, helping them to change their lives and putting them on a pathway to recovery?

  • Have you ever wanted to experience what it’s like to live and work in one of the UK’s most beautiful areas?

We are searching for an exceptional consultant psychiatrist to direct and deliver a specialist inpatient eating disorder service for Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and the wider South West. You will use your skills, experience and insights to help us develop a new integrated community eating disorder care pathway in Devon, ensuring that patients receive person-centred care with recovery at its heart.

An experienced clinician with impressive professional credentials and a detailed knowledge of clinical governance and regulator requirements you will be capable of balancing a demanding caseload, functioning effectively in a multidisciplinary team of over 25. You will participate meaningfully in all aspects of clinical governance.

You will be responsible for the effective day-to-day delivery of life changing mental health services, providing clinical guidance and leading on the provision and coordination of care and treatment. You will oversee the referral, admission and pre-admission assessments of patients. An effective communicator you will provide clinical support and advice to nursing staff and the trust management team.

It’s an exciting time to join us as we develop our new community eating disorder service (CEDS). Operating as a pilot since 2016 you will help us to establish the service, developing a package of community-based care for adults with moderate to severe needs that is evidence-based and recovery focused.

We are searching for a consultant with vision, who can help us to grow and improve our services and our organisation. We value your professional development, giving you the chance to grow in the role though teaching opportunities, funded CPD and academic support.

About you

You will be an experienced mental health professional with a detailed and current knowledge of NHS, local government and national strategies and policies. Registered with the GMC, you will be eligible to hold Approved Clinician status at appointment.

You will have substantial experience of working in a specialist mental health team, preferably in eating disorders based psychiatry. A history of effectively delivering care in a variety of settings, including the community, is essential – as is an in-depth knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.

Your experience of the health service will have given you an understanding of NHS management and funding arrangements, and an insight into service development. A capable and confident manager you will have the skills to work with a large, multi-disciplinary team – explaining your decisions and views clearly.

You will be able to understand – and apply – the most up-to-date research, challenging colleagues and the organisation to improve. You will use these skills to help shape our new CEDS, based on the principles of being evidence-based, recovery-focused, is effectively risk-managed with care shared across partners.

Personally, you will be expected to exemplify the recovery approach, strengthening relationships with our partners to deliver a complete package of care. We expect you to understand the fundamental principles of this approach, embedding it within teams and systems, and continually working to improve patient care.

An effective communicator you will have previous experience of undergraduate teaching, lecturing and clinical supervision, inspiring the next generation of mental health professionals.

The role is challenging and demanding. You will use your experience, insight and knowledge to maintain and improve the quality of eating disorder services provided across the Peninsula region now, and for the future.
