Full-time but part-time/job-share applicants welcome

Welcome to Devon Partnership NHS Trust! We would like to invite you to apply for the Consultant Psychiatrist post in General Adult for Torbay Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Service.

Torbay is situated on the beautiful English Riviera with a lively developed seaside community, with good leisure amenities, that still retains a community spirit to help its more deprived and those working towards recovery. As well as access to the sea, there is good walking to be had on the coastal route and to moorland in the adjacent Dartmoor National Park.

The post covers a population of approximately 78,535 patients of working age registered with General Practice surgeries in the Torbay area.

The post holder will be based at the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team, Community Wellbeing Hub, Torbay Hospital within the Haytor Unit.

DPT is a research active organization. We would welcome applications from academically orientated doctors who wish to pursue this aspect of their career. An honorary contract with the University of Exeter would be available for suitable qualified colleagues. This post comes with the option of spending fully funded and remunerated time on research activity subject to approval by the Deputy Medical Director and the Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Exeter Medical School.

Patient safety and Quality Improvement are key aspects of the role and training will be provided if required.

You will take part in on-call rota and other consultants from the area will be expected to provide cross-cover for leave.

You will be well supported by a dedicated full-time medical staffing department.

This post is suitable as a first NHS consultant, an existing or post-retirement consultant with a broad level of general adult psychiatric expertise. International candidates are welcome to apply. Experience of working in adult community mental health services is preferable but support will be given to doctors wishing to move from other psychiatric specialties or roles.

Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable but those who would be eligible eg doctors applying from abroad, will be supported to obtain this authority.

We have excellent IT and full electronic record across our services and are in the process of a clinician-led design of our own clinical record system. We are strongly supportive of virtual working and use of Information Technology to stay in touch with patients and teams. Whilst a visible consultant leadership presence is essential, we would support home and virtual working for administrative aspects of the role.

A mentor and peer group will be provided. You will have 2.5 Supporting Programmed Activities (10 hours a week) to support, leadership, quality improvement, your professional development, attend your monthly peer group, quarterly medical advisory committee and local post-graduate meetings. An additional Programmed Activity would be available to candidates who can demonstrate that they have robust plans for research based activity and we would be willing to negotiate a protected day within the timetable for this.
