Job Description:

We are delighted to invite you to apply for the Consultant Psychiatrist post with the Home Treatment Team (HTT), General Adult Directorate based at The Cedars, Exeter. This service is for patients age 18-65 years old caring for the population in the Exeter area and some surrounding towns.The post is full-time however part-time/job-share applicants are welcome.

The Trust is committed to recruiting and retaining high calibre consultants by supporting an agile and productive working force. There is a possibility for a hybrid working pattern. Extra PA's are available and negotiable for clinical, research, innovation, teaching, medical management and other special interests.

Within the Exeter HTT, there is another team caring for a different catchment area, led by another Consultant Psychiatrist who provides similar services. Patient safety and Quality Improvement are key aspects of the role and training will be provided if required.

This post is suitable for a first time NHS consultant, or an existing or post-retirement consultant with a broad level of general adult psychiatric expertise. International candidates are welcome to apply. Experience of working in adult community mental health services is preferable but support will be given to doctors wishing to move from other psychiatric specialties or roles.

Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable but those who would be eligible eg doctors applying from abroad, will be supported to obtain this authority.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients being managed by the Exeter Home Treatment Team, as well as other expert clinical services in support of patients and their families/carers as necessary. They will also provide leadership to the wider HTT and participate in ensuring the care flow of patients through the Trust is efficient and patient centred.

You will take part in on-call rota and other consultants from the area will be expected to provide cross-cover for leave.

Teaching and Supervision

Essential

  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.

Desirable

  • MRCPsych.
  • Other professional qualification
  • (eg CBT, PSI, CAT ).
  • CCT in General Psychiatry.

Experience

  • Prior experience working in a Community Mental Health Team.
  • Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community.
