Occupational Therapist Jobs
Occupational therapists (OTs) are integral members of the healthcare team within the National Health Service (NHS), playing a crucial role in improving the lives of individuals facing physical, mental, developmental, or emotional challenges. At the heart of their profession lies the commitment to empower patients to engage in meaningful activities and achieve optimal independence in their daily lives.
Occupational therapists work within a biopsychosocial model, meaning they are well equipped to see not just the imminent needs of an individual but the longer-term needs that add purpose and meaning to one's life. As the only professionals to be trained in mental health, physical health, social care and learning disabilities, Occupational Therapists play a crucial part in assessment, treatment and prevention planning which is at the heart of improving a person's overall health and quality of life. Occupational Therapists are recognised for being advocates for individual well being.
Occupational Therapists vary from working within inpatient-based settings to more long-term community-focused services. Occupational Therapists assist individuals by asking who they are and what they need. From there, they can support in various ways, whether improving others' understanding of a person's social needs or engaging individuals in activities that will provide skill acquisition in other areas of their daily lives. Occupational Therapists also will support with challenges related to fine motor skills, sensory processing, and social-emotional developmental needs to enhance independence in daily life skills.
