Job Description:

A Principal Clinical Psychologist is required to join the team as part of the exciting new Integrated Non-Custodial Services (INCS) contract, which has been awarded to DPT for the next seven years.

The INCS contract brings together CJL&D, Reconnect and the Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTRs) in order to deliver care and support for individuals to address their health care needs and offending behaviour from custody diversion through to release back to the community.

The MHTR service delivers Mental Health Treatment Requirements to individuals who have received a community sentence from the courts which has an MHTR as an element of the order. MHTRs are designed to support individuals with low to medium mental health needs where the court considers that an individuals mental health is linked to their offending.

Main duties of the job

  • To beresponsible for promoting the psychological health and well-being of clients in the Community Sentence Treatment Requirement Team within the Trust.
  • To ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service to clients of the service team, across all sectors of care.
  • To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychologists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.
  • To act as Clinical Lead for Mental Health Treatment Requirements as part of a Court Order.
  • To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise delegated responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service.
  • To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.
  • To propose and implement policy changes within the area served by the team / service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified Clinical Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent), eligible for Chartered Clinical Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society.
  • Further training in forensic clinical psychology

Desirable

  • Further training in at least one psychological therapy

Knowledge

Essential

  • Broad knowledge of forensic clinical psychology services; and of the services in the NHS where clinical psychology is commonly applied.
  • Extensive knowledge of the knowledge base, skills and practice of Clinical Psychology
  • Knowledge of the policy context of services to Devon Partnership Trust and of leadership in this setting
  • An extensive knowledge and awareness of Health and Criminal Justice Organisations working with Adults e.g. Probation, Mental

Desirable

  • An extensive knowledge and awareness of Health and Criminal Justice Organisations working with Adults e.g. Probation, Mental Health & Learning Disability Services, Drug & Alcohol services

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of work in forensic clinical psychology in a range of service settings or agencies. Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
  • Experience in undertaking leadership roles within clinical psychology services in the NHS, and in contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies and clinical policies in multi-disciplinary, multi-agency contexts Experience, and/or training in diversity awareness and social inequality
