As well as helping others, volunteering has been shown to improve volunteers' wellbeing too. It is human nature to feel good after helping someone out. Volunteering can also help people gain valuable new skills and experiences, and boost confidence. We currently have a number of volunteers across Devon, and those who join us do so for a variety of reasons. Some are at college or university and wish to use the experience to gain further insight to support their careers in mental health; some are retired but not quite ready to put their feet up. Others are looking for work or want to get back to it after a break, and we have those who have lived experience and can offer such valuable insights.
Our 'Volunteering' session will include an explanation of the various volunteer roles and the application process. There will be an opportunity for those attending to ask questions following the presentations and to find out more about these exciting opportunities. Additionally, there is an opportunity for follow-up sessions on a 1:1 basis to discuss individual needs if required.
The learning outcomes from the session will be:
- Understand the volunteer roles within our organisation
- Understand the application process
- Understand the possibility of volunteering leading to a career
- Understand the benefits to both you, the volunteer, and us as the employer
- Will be able to identify what you need to consider, such as time and commitment
- Q&A
